I’ll admit it, packing school lunches makes me want to kick someone in the throat. It’s NOVEMBER and the hardest part of my day is the 5 minutes while I throw everything into a bag for my youngest’s lunch every morning. I HATE it. Every year I think I’m going to do a better job and after a couple of months he’s off to school with a processed cheese sandwich and a fruit snack.
So with this year of being a ‘better’ me FOR me I’m tackling my ONE parenting failing (shut up, stop laughing).
How am I doing it? With homemade bento boxes!!
These are my versions of a Lunchable (without all the processed crap). On the side is the little container of blackberries and blueberries for the fruit portion of the lunch. So for the remainder of the week they have crackers towers with sausage and marble cheese, snap peas, a hardboiled egg, tomatoes and cucumber slices with a side of fruit. I have a feeling this could turn into quite the obsession. I’m already looking into speciality bento boxes to order off the internet and have a shopping list for all the cute little shape cutters so I can get all creative. Who doesn’t want a sandwich cut like a heart from their Mom in their lunch? When I’m in the city tomorrow I’m picking up sushi rice and some nori cause there is no WAY I’m not doing some veggie sushi rolls! Oh yeah, I’m totally NOT going to go overboard with this…..
